January Adoption Stories
We kicked off 2026 with 33 adoptions in January. Each adopted cat had different needs and timelines on their journey to their new homes. From longtime senior foster cats like Ollie and Pip, to young fearful kittens like Sprite and Fresca, each cat got the space and care they needed to build confidence and be set up for success.
These incredible transformations are made possible by this community and people like you. Because of you, cats can take their time through their process of blossoming into their truest selves. Thank you for helping us create these January success stories. Here are just a few:
Zelda came to Cat Town after being left behind in an apartment when her guardian moved away. Confident and social, she was adopted quickly from Cat Town, but returned when her nighttime vocalizing proved overwhelming for her adopter. We brought the girl to a foster home and then to a Cat Town studio so we could better understand what soothed her and what kind of home would best help her thrive. With our thorough adoption counseling and post-adoption support, Zelda has found a family with adopters prepared to help her settle in soundly. We’re thrilled to hear she’s being treasured and accepted exactly as she is.
Ollie and Pip arrived at the city shelter scared and shutdown in April 2023 after their caretaker passed away. Pip was quick to hiss and hide, Ollie was sweet but withdrawn, and both needed extensive patience, time, and medical care that made them easy to overlook. After almost three years with Cat Town fosters, the two bonded seniors slowly built up their courage, learning to trust pets and playtime, and bravely accepting and eventually enjoying human companionship. After 1,060 days, their final foster guardians chose to make their journey and care part of their lives, and adopted them together.
Pedro Pawscal came to the city shelter from a home with too many animals at just one-year-old, shy at first, but quick to seek affection. In a Cat Town foster home, we gave this cuddly cat structured routine that included playtime, solo toys and puzzles, and daily medication to help curb his anxiousness and hyperactivity. Now adopted by someone experienced with energetic, attention-loving cats, Pedro is with a family who understands his needs and loves every bit of his unique and joyful personality.
Blaze and Arya arrived at the city shelter as stressed, undersocialized kittens, each needing medical care and patience to feel safe. Blaze’s bottomless energy and Arya’s shy, conflicted, and curious personality made each somewhat challenging to socialize. We introduced the two, and they quickly bonded — playing, grooming, and cuddling their way into becoming more regulated, relaxed, and confident. Giving these cats the right companion made it easier for them to receive the reassurance and playtime they needed to show their best selves, and helped them get adopted together.
Five-year-old Colby arrived at Cat Town after his guardian passed away, and soon after intake, we noticed he was losing weight and had little appetite. He was diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis, a serious liver condition stemming from anorexia, and moved to a foster home where daily medications, fluids, and a calm environment helped him recover. After Colby recovered to his natural charming and healthy self, he found a home with an experienced family, an 8-year-old feline friend, and adopters prepared with extensive guidance on cat introductions and routines to set everyone up for success.
Five-month-olds Sprite and Fresca came to the city shelter as part of the Forgotten Kitten Project, shy, undersocialized, and needing time to trust people. After giving Sprite antibiotics to treat an illness that caused him weight loss, stomach problems, and low energy, and approaching each of these kittens with slow and patient encouragement to help build their trust through positive reinforcement the bonded pair grew more comfortable with gentle human interaction, and eventually blossoming into their authentic and confident personalities. We’re grateful their adopters are ready to continue their socialization journey and help Sprite and Fresca thrive as they’re still learning how wonderful it is to be part of a family.
