September Adoption Stories
Behind many Cat Town adoptions is a cat who just needed more time. Whether it’s providing medical care for physical injuries, or helping a cat feel safe and learn to trust, our staff do our best to give these cats the extra support they need to take their next step: meeting people who are ready to meet them with love, patience, and understanding.
Because of you, 25 cats in September found homes of their own. Here are just a few of their stories:
At 4 months old, Max was brought to the city shelter with an injured eye, which couldn’t be salvaged. Around the same time, one-month-old Murphy arrived at Antioch City Shelter with a respiratory infection so severe that the lining of her eyes fused to her cornea, which permanently impaired her vision. Max was sweet but shy, while Murphy was brave and affectionate. The two met in our care while they recovered, and quickly bonded. Murphy helped Max make good progress as his confident role model, becoming a total muffin. As soon as they were available, a lucky, cat-experienced adopter scooped them up to bring them into their home.
As a 13-year-old senior, Bamboo came to Cat Town from the city shelter for a second chance to find a home, with as much time as he needed. Between his age, Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease, arthritis, and extra weight, we made sure he got support to feel his best, including a prescription kidney diet and a gentle weight loss plan to help him maintain a great quality of life. We also helped his sore muscles by giving him non-slip surfaces and ramps to walk on, raised food and water bowls, and low-sided litterboxes. Despite his challenges, we knew Bamboo was a world-class cuddle-bug who just needed an adopter who wanted to give him a comfortable life in his golden years. We’re grateful to see this sweet senior go to a loving home!
Five-year-old Butterscotch was brought to a city shelter with a broken leg and suspected bone infection. At the city shelter, he received pain management and cage rest, until shelter staff determined he needed an amputation to keep his condition from worsening. At Cat Town, we kept him comfortable as he recovered from his surgery, and took him to the vet to make sure his amputation was healing well. In a foster home, Butterscotch proved extremely sweet. As his foster said, he was a ”Champion Lap Cat” who just loved hanging out and drooled with happiness. Once he was healthy enough to become available for adoption, he soon found himself adopted into a loving family ready to give him the best life.
When 5-year-old Mr. Snuggles arrived at the city shelter as a stray, he had a few medical challenges to work through. He was positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and experienced recurrent giardia infections that contributed to chronic digestive issues and diarrhea. Our team stabilized his health with treatment and a carefully managed diet to support his sensitive stomach. Thankfully, Mr. Snuggles’ personality was just as sweet as his name suggests. He loved attention, eagerly accepted pets, and purred happily during playtime with staff and volunteers. Once his health was under control, Mr. Snuggles simply needed an adopter who could continue supporting his diet and care. After 6 months in a foster home, Mr. Snuggles met someone who fell in love with him and officially made him part of the family!
Sweet June was one of Cat Town’s longest residents, having been with us since August 2024. She had been surrendered for showing defensiveness towards humans rooted in distrust and fear, so we brought her into a gentle and quiet foster home with an experienced foster guardian who’d understand that her mistrust was nothing personal. June was also overweight, so we helped her lose weight slowly to keep her joints healthy, and found ways to create a safe environment that encouraged to drink more water, use her litterbox, and avoid stress-related urinary tract infections. With a routine, medication, and lots of patience, June slowly began to relax and come out of her shell. Eventually, she began spending her days happily soaking in the sun and cuddling with the resident cat. We gave her all the time she needed to truly feel her best. After 759 days with Cat Town, her fosters realized that they couldn’t live without her and joined the foster-to-family club, making her an official part of their family.
