So far this year, your support has helped 241 cats get adopted. Each cat that found a home not only got a second chance to relax and thrive, but also made room at shelters so more cats can be rescued and given their own second chances. Thanks to you:
114 tiny kittens made space for older cats at the shelter
137 cats in bonded pairs stayed together
87 sick and injured cats found good health and happiness
88 stressed cats could relax and feel safe again
42 black cats got the attention they deserved
19 Forgotten Kittens found courage and learned to love
13 senior cats landed on their feet
10 cats with FIV found support
These are just a few of the successful journeys we celebrated in October:
Friendly one-month-olds Joules and Newton came to Cat Town with their littermate and another kitten who needed to learn how to play with others and trust humans. The other two kittens were quickly adopted — as adorable babies often are. Then Joules and Newton began experiencing persistent diarrhea. We had both kids fully dewormed and found a special diet that got their stool back to normal. Now much healthier after 6 months, this happy, rambunctious duo found a home with an adopter ready to give them a lot of play and make sure they continue to stay healthy.
Sometimes pain can have an outsized impact on a cat’s behavior. Falcon arrived at Cat Town last December after receiving medical treatment at the shelter for a leg wound. He had also lived in a home that was overcrowded with other animals, and perhaps due to his discomfort, or perhaps due to lack of practice, he was quick to swat when he wanted space in our free-roaming room. Regular vet appointments ensured he was healing well, and as his pain faded over time, so did his wariness. In his own quiet studio with a confident cat, Falcon transformed even more, approaching people for pets, showing his affection, and purring. Almost a year after his arrival, we’re grateful to have him adopted by experienced guardians who understand cats like him, and can give him a home where he can feel safe and thrive. He still needs time to win over their other cat, and we’re grateful his new family is taking the process slow and steady to help him succeed.
After coming to Cat Town from a home with too many animals, Boise was diagnosed with chronic stomatitis: a highly painful inflammation of a cat's entire mouth, which can include the gums, cheeks, tongue, and back of the throat. We got him dental surgery to remove the infected teeth and relieve his discomfort, and noticed that he was still experiencing significant pain and inflammation. We also started him on a new medication specifically for difficult stomatitis cases like these. After a 4-month course, his stomatitis was resolved! We’re happy we could give Boise the treatment he needed to feel comfortable and be his true self.
When cats are understandably stressed in their shelter cages, surrounded by loud noises and confusing smells, they are often overlooked because they can’t find the confidence to be their true brave selves. Blaze was one of these cats, so we got him to a Cat Town foster home where we quickly saw him relax and let his personality emerge. After just one week, he was flopping around, asking for affection, happily playing, and fully relaxed. It’s always incredibly rewarding to see transformations like these that prove how powerful simple a low-stress environment can be.
A good Samaritan rescued Laney after they found her injured in traffic on the highway. At Cat Town, this sweet yet scared 4-month-old got time, medical care, and the comfort of another kitten named Ace to recover and learn to be confident. Four months later, both were adopted together, and their adopter tells us that they spend their days happily napping on cushy pillows and watching squirrels and birds from the window.
