August 2022 Adoptions

What do Aiko, Tandoori, Graham, and Cody all have in common? They were each amongst the 34 cats adopted from Cat Town in August!

Summer is in high gear, and so are adoptions — thanks to people like you believing that cats who struggle in a shelter cage can still make incredible companions, if given the chance. Your support means that plenty of bonded pairs, scared little kittens, and cats with medical needs found homes last month. Sometimes that meant giving them a foster home where they could de-stress. Sometimes that meant deep-diving into diagnostics to give them a healthy life. Sometimes it even meant volunteer after volunteer visiting them with a soothing voice to give them the courage to trust us.

No matter their path home, you were with them every step of the way, and we’re delighted to share some of their stories with you!

Dune and Meadow were some of the first enrollees in Summer School — our new program to support kittens just a bit younger than our Forgotten Kittens, but still too old for other rescues to take them from the shelter. They made fast progress with our doting volunteers, and their adopters have already let us know the pair are adjusting to their new home with ease: “Meadow is the huntress of the house, and is getting used to pets and being picked up. This morning Dune even cuddled on the bed with us.”

Tom Collins was extremely agitated in his shelter cage after being accustomed to life in a home. Having grown up as a single kitten, he was also prone to rough housing, and didn’t care much for other cats. We got him on medication to help him de-stress in one of our Studios, where he met someone who fell in love right away. His adopter is ready to give him plenty of space, enrichment, playtime, and love!

Twelve-year-old Rosa had stage 3 kidney disease when she came into our care. She was skinny, dirty, and had a drooly mouth full of painful teeth. After some serious medical care and much love from her foster guardians, she transformed into a completely unrecognizable gal, always greeting her person at the door and finding every opportunity for pets. Her adopters absolutely adore her, and are giving her weekly subcutaneous fluids to keep her in good health for the rest of her days.

Little Octavia arrived at the city shelter as a stray who tested positive for FIV, aka feline immunodeficiency virus. Approaching unlucky number 7 — an age many adopters consider “too old” — and being a black cat, she had a number of strikes against her. Fortunately, she got all the time she needed to find the perfect adopter at Cat Town. They not only cherish her calm and independent attitude, but also her sweet and tender moments. They’ve vowed to keep her “extremely pampered” — just the life Octavia deserves!

Sherwin was found by a Good Samaritan outside a Sherwin Williams paint shop. This confident, affectionate boy started off with litter box issues that quickly resolved, and just as quickly made it known that he prefers to be the only cat around, thank-you-very-much! Thankfully, his adopter was more than happy to oblige. They let us know, “Sherwin has been an absolute delight — the rascal is asleep by my desk as I work from home today. We play two to three times a day, and I've learned that he's very fond of wand toys. He's slowly taking over my camera roll.”
