NON ADOPTION OUTCOMES

While our goal is always a positive outcome for every cat, there are rare situations where adoption is not possible. This may include humane euthanasia, or an alternative placement (such as a sanctuary or working cat placements) — decisions we always make as a team.

We know these decisions matter deeply to our community because they matter deeply to us, too. As part of our commitment to transparency, we publicly disclose all non-adoption outcomes, along with the reasoning behind those decisions.

2026 Disclosures:

Bean was transferred to Cat Town from Oakland Animal Services on 10/7/2025. She was approximately 13 years old at that time. She received a comprehensive workup by our veterinarian, including labwork. After several months in foster care, our foster volunteer noted that she was congested, and these symptoms did not respond to treatment. Further evaluation by our veterinarian revealed a mass – most likely cancerous – significantly obstructing her airway, and causing labored breathing. On the advice of our veterinarian and to alleviate her suffering, Bean was humanely euthanized in her foster home on 1/13/2026.

Spare Tire was only a day or two old when he was found on 6/10/26 by an employee of an auto dealership near our facility. He was alone, nested in a pile of broken glass, in the back of a car that was riddled with bullet holes. We have no idea how he got there. We took him in and got him warm. He needed to be fostered right away, and since we did not have a foster with neonatal experience available we asked our friends at Full Circle Cats to take him in. They agreed and he was placed in a foster home where he could receive the necessary specialized care.
