July 2021 Adoptions

We’re in the thick of summer, which means that the shelter is filling up with animals. Fortunately, we were able to help 36 hard-to-adopt cats find homes in July!

We helped 11 bonded pairs and 8 forgotten kittens, as well as senior cats, stressed cats, and cats with medical and behavioral needs — including dental work, litter box problems, and more. This month, we’re highlighting a number of adoptions who all have something in common: these cats were guardian surrenders who got their second chances at Cat Town.

Thank you for helping us take chances on cats who have no place to go but Cat Town. Your support lets us do everything possible to empty more shelter cages, and fill more hearts.

Caesar came to us with focal seizures that made him behave aggressively towards his guardian. During his episodes, Caesar didn’t seem to know what he was doing, and with no way to predict his outbursts, his person didn’t feel safe with him anymore. …

Caesar came to us with focal seizures that made him behave aggressively towards his guardian. During his episodes, Caesar didn’t seem to know what he was doing, and with no way to predict his outbursts, his person didn’t feel safe with him anymore. We got him on medication to help reduce the frequency of his seizures, and made a behavior plan for his foster to help Caesar be his best self, but this special boy still needed a hero adopter. Fortunately, he got one! His adopter is thrilled to bits with this beautiful boy!

Four-year-old Cosmos was surrendered by a guardian who was moving and couldn’t take her with them. At the shelter, this shy girl was frozen in fear, shrinking away from touch. We put her in our foster program to recover from the stress of her shelter cage, and once she started showing off her sweet side, she got adopted. Her new home is with an astronomer who tells us she can't imagine life without her!

Cliff was abandoned by his guardians 6 yrs ago, and since then, neighbors had been feeding him. When he finally arrived at the shelter at ten years old, this gentle senior was thin, unkempt, and suffering from dental disease. In partnership with Friends of Oakland Animal Services, we took care of his teeth. Then we got him into foster care, where he flourished. His adopter told us that he’s been incredibly sweet and snuggly, and they adore him.

Mr. Cutie was surrendered to Oakland Animal Services when his original guardian became overwhelmed with changes in their life. Once in shelter, he quickly became stressed — lunging, swatting, and hissing at staff and volunteers who approached him in his cage. We put him in foster to see if his stress would subside, and he utterly transformed into a perfect love bug. His adopter tells us that he is already like her son, they are so similar! He even gets along with their dog.

Sable was surrendered from the same home as River and Reed, who also got adopted this month. Her guardian told the shelter she was pregnant and not using the litter box appropriately. Sable became frustrated by her cage, and her reaction to the shelter environment meant she could not be made available for adoption there. After de-stressing in one of our foster homes, she got adopted by a couple with another cat, Gumbo, who is now Sable’s new best feline friend.

Pasha had been taken to the vet to be euthanized by her previous guardian. After being declawed, she stopped using the litter box due to the pain this procedure caused. She also had problems with diarrhea and vomiting. Fortunately her vet reached out to the Paw Project, one of the nation’s leading advocates against declawing, and they reached out to us, knowing we help cats like Pasha overcome obstacles to adoption. We got her into our foster program and on a special diet and pain medication for her paws, and all of her troubles melted away. Her adopter is committed to giving her the royal treatment, and plans to spoil her like a princess!
