Thank you to our donors for contributing to the saving pets challenge!
From July 5 through August 4, Cat Town will be part of the Michelson Found Animals Saving Pets Challenge, a nationwide fundraising competition for rescue organizations. The organization that raises the most money will be awarded an extra $50,000. This would be a game changer for Cat Town, but the only way we could ever get there is with your help!
Every donation, regardless of size, contributes to our life-saving mission. Please give what you can to help deserving, adoptable cats find relief from shelter stress and put their best paws forward to potential adopters in the uplifting environment of Cat Town Café & Adoption Center.
MEOW AT THE MOON EVENT
Cat Town, Oakland Animal Services and Heart of the Town Events are delighted to host the inaugural "Meow at the Moon", a frolicking, cat-themed festival supporting cats in need of loving homes.
Our festive fundraiser will feature a cat-themed costume contest, cat video showcase, music and dancing, and a “cat-tastic” photo booth in addition to Oakland beer, wine, food, and more “purr-tastic” fun!
This people-only event welcomes guests to dress as (or in the spirit of) cats and party the night away under the moonlight in Frank Ogawa Plaza. We invite animal lovers, Oakland boosters, night owls and other fun-seekers looking to toast The Town!
A 501c3 nonprofit, Cat Town has a unique partnership with the city’s shelter, Oakland Animal Services. Together, they have found “fur-ever” homes for 1,400 hard-to-place cats and reduced the shelter’s euthanasia rate by 32%. Event proceeds will help care for many at-risk cats.
To become a sponsor of the event, please visit www.Meow-at-the-Moon.org.
Join the fun on Saturday, September 17!

Walk a Mile in an Abandoned Cat's Paws
It's tough on the streets if you are a cat. Usually they eek out an existence dumpster diving and catching vermin. Cats who have been abandoned or lost often end up in a feral colony, but they are not wild cats. They are domesticated cats who are down on their luck and a helping paw.
We had a super 2nd week of the Saving Pets Challenge, with individual team members raising over $5,000 last week (and that doesn't even include the money donated to the general Cat Town fundraiser!) That puts Cat Town's total over $33,000 so far! But we can't stop yet...we want to make sure we keep pushing to the finish line to meet our goal of $120,000.
In the first week of Saving Pets Challenge, including some offline donations, we have raised over $30,000 to help the cats who need us most! That is simply incredible!
Here's a story which is quite a common one at Cat Town - the transformation of a scared and shy cat to a confident pet. Boone was adopted from Cat Town cafe just a couple weeks ago.
Before I started volunteering at the Oakland shelter, I didn’t know that it is really challenging to socialize kittens once they are three months old or older. Around this time of year, the shelter starts to fill up with these older kittens. Try as they might, shelter volunteers usually make little progress since the kittens are so scared in that environment. Add to that the fact that kittens are really vulnerable to illness, because their immune systems aren’t fully developed. That means they often get sick and are super difficult to treat. Taking these guys in, often means extra vet bills as well.

Similar to Team in Training or Relay for Life, you reach out to your network to help raise money, but instead of then riding your bike 500 miles or walking laps all night, you can help cats get out of the shelter and into great homes from the comfort of your couch! We keep every dollar we raise, and groups that raise the most money during the challenge period receive additional grants up to $50,000.
This year our goal is to raise $120,000!
